Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?

If I had received 1 euro, everytime someone told me ‘I am not flexible enough, I can’t do yoga’, I would be really rich today! 

I know that nowadays we see yoga flourish everywhere, and that for a lot of people when they think yoga they picture a girl in a legging doing crazy stuff with her body. But to me, this isn’t what yoga is about.

Yoga isn’t about how you look, how flexible you are, if you have the perfect trendy outfit for it, if you are an expert or a beginner… Yoga is a way of living on and out of your mat. 

• Yoga is here to teach us how to come back to our body, to our senses.

• It helps us to open up and create space within ourselves.

• It helps us to reconnect with what we are feeling and how our body is processing it.

And yes, yoga will help you to become more flexible with time (this is the magic of it!).

What did yoga bring into my life? 

It enabled me to reconnect with my body that I had treated so badly. Yoga brought calm and quiet into my mind, which was such an amazing gift for me, since for so many years, the only things I could think about were my look and food. Instead I discovered, with practice, how to reconnect with my breath and how things felt within. 

Yoga helped me to open up my body, to get a better posture, it taught me patience and helped me to raise my self-esteem and confidence. 

Yoga taught me to look at my body as this amazing vessel that it was, and to get such a better body image thanks to it.

And YES with time, yoga improved my flexibility and increased my range of motion.

But if you had one thing to remember, it is that : you do not need to look a certain way to practice, you do not need to be a certain age, you do not need to be able to put your leg around your neck to be a “yogini”, you do not need to be flexible to practice.

I adapt my classes to all levels, I always give options so that everyone can find something for them. I share with you in my classes way more than “just some poses”.
